Evangelion celebrates 30 years with 90s fashion

My name is Rafael Alves, known as Shinzo. I created the AnimeNew website in 2009 to offer news about anime, manga, and games directly from Japan.

In celebration of Neon Genesis Evangelion's, the franchise released a retro-inspired clothing collection reminiscent of 90s fashion. Titled EVANGELION:95, the line commemorates the anime's debut year in Japan.

Developed by Tomohiro Kato, creative director associated with the brand since 2012, the collection features pieces reminiscent of the casual style that dominated Japan in the 90s. Among the items are t-shirts, jackets, sweaters, long-sleeved shirts, and socks, all with classic Evangelion images and logos.

Kato has already led several collaborations for the brand, including partnerships with names like G-Shock, Fila, and VanMoof. Images of the EVANGELION:95 collection were released by Oricon, showcasing the products in editorials with models wearing the pieces. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether this collection will be sold outside of Japan.

Although similar promotions have reached international markets through events or partnerships, some anime merchandising remains exclusive to the Japanese market. With a solid fanbase in the West, especially in the United States, it's possible that EVANGELION:95 will reach other countries.

Evangelion in 2025: 30 Years of Cultural Impact

Released in 1995, Neon Genesis Evangelion marked the decade with its blend of science fiction and profound themes such as self-esteem and depression. Set in the "future" of 2015, 10 years have passed since the year in which the series unfolds. Even three decades after its debut, Evangelion remains influential, with a constant stream of products and brand collaborations, such as Universal Studios Japan, which has featured attractions from the franchise.

By 2025, the series will have its biggest marketing boost in years. Among the new developments is a promotion with McDonald's, which includes transformable toys in children's meals. Although there are no new anime planned, the franchise's legacy remains alive, especially after the success of the latest film in the Rebuild of Evangelion, 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time, released in 2021.
