CoMix Wave Films has released the full trailer for the animated short film Shiranuhi, revealing new cast members and production details. According to sources, the project will premiere in Japanese theaters on August 21st and features an emotional narrative set in the 1990s.

Synopsis Shiranui
The story follows Minato, a 10-year-old boy living in difficult conditions with his alcoholic father. His only escape is Ben-chan, a mysterious goddess in the form of a girl who appears on Benten Island, bringing moments of comfort. When Minato realizes he might be taken to a children's shelter, he seeks help from the Shiranui phenomenon, enigmatic lights that appear over the sea. In desperation, he makes a wish laden with resentment, which ends up taking an unexpected turn.
Production and creative team
However, the direction is handled by Ryō Katanosaka, who makes his anime directorial debut after working on independent projects. The soundtrack is by Taro Umebayashi, known for his work on Yuri on Ice and Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction.
The theme song will be performed by Ichiko Aoba, bringing a delicate tone to the production. Finally, it's worth remembering that the project received an early announcement during Anime Japan 2024 as part of a new phase for the studio.
