The beloved comedy manga 'Nichijou' first ended in 2015 with 10 volumes. But in October 2021, manga creator Keiichi Arawi resumed the series after casually announcing on Twitter that he wanted to draw it again.
The author of the manga 'Nichijou' reveals the reason for resuming the work after 6 years
Last Monday, the manga news site 'Manga Passion' published an interview with Arawi that provides more details about his motivations for returning. He commented that he initially stopped the manga due to burnout and that his plan was to transition to the less strenuous work of illustrating novels. However, after a break, he discovered that he still had a hunger to create manga.
Fan mail also played a significant role. Arawi revealed that he was touched by how he continued to receive letters from all over the world, even years after the manga ended.
Regarding his plans for the future of the series, Arawi gave a disjointed and amusing answer:
Traveling the world, connecting with people who enjoy Nichijō, savoring alcohol and delicacies from different regions, opening your heart to others, comforting people and letting them comfort you, getting drunk and hungover the next day, watching a local soccer team game, saying goodbye to familiar faces, meeting new people elsewhere, painting landscapes there, selling them and starting a new life, meeting a nice person, falling in love, starting a romance, having children somewhere between fighting and reconciliation, and then drawing a manga about raising children.
Therefore, somewhere within this very elaborate plan, he also said that he intends to continue working in Nichijō.
Synopsis
While the title suggests a simple school life story (nichijou means diary/daily life), the content is quite the opposite. The story takes place in a strange school where you'll see the main characters fighting and doing weird things. However, there are still normal stories, like building a house of cards or taking a test. Follow the unusual and super fun daily lives of these high school students. Everything is very unusual!
