Square Enix, along with the Gangan Online web manga , will adapt Satsuki Yoshino 's work " Barakamon " for television.

The comedy revolves around Handa Seishuu, a young calligrapher, who is sent to an island west of Japan after a certain incident. On his very first day in his new life in the countryside, Sensei, as he comes to be called, meets the simple and innocent Naru, a child from the island.

Yoshino launched the manga in 2009, and Square Enix released the compiled volume in September. The volumes have sold over 1.8 million copies. Yoshino will launch a spinoff manga, titled “Handa-kun,” in the monthly magazine Shonen Gangan. The spinoff manga will take place six years before Barakamon and will follow Seishu when he was still in school.

Kinema Citrus (Yuyushiki, Code:Breaker) will be handling the animation. The anime is scheduled to premiere on Nippon TV later this year.
