The International Manga Award was established in May 2007 by the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Taro Aso , to recognize manga artists who have contributed to the dissemination of manga culture worldwide and to the promotion of international cultural exchange. The Award has been held annually.
The best manga will be awarded the Gold Award. The other three outstanding works will be awarded the Silver Award. The winners will be invited by the Japan Foundation to travel to Japan to participate in the Awards Ceremony. They will meet with manga artists to exchange ideas and visit publishers.

- Publication of results: between the end of 2016 and January 2017
