The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Makoto Shinkai 's masterpiece 5 Centimeters Per Second has just received its first official trailer. Additionally, two new posters and key names in the children's cast have been revealed.
The promotional video begins with the protagonist, Takaki Tōno, standing at an intersection in Shinjuku, as he narrates: "I'm always looking for traces of that time somewhere." The melody that accompanies the scene is a re-recorded version of the song "One More Time, One More Chance" , now performed by Fumitake Ezaki, composer responsible for the score of the new film.
New scenes and visual nostalgia in the teaser
The trailer explores urban life at sunset, the summer glow, the seaside train tracks, and glimpses into the protagonists' childhood. The most touching moment comes with the narration of little Akari, who says: "The speed is five centimeters per second. That's the speed at which cherry blossom petals fall." The phrase delicately captures the title's symbolism.
Additionally, two young talents have been confirmed for the cast: Yuto Ueda will play a young Takaki, and Noa Shirayama will play a younger version of Akari. Both expressed excitement about being part of the adaptation of such an iconic work.
Scheduled debut and consecrated direction
The anime version, released in 2007, chronicled Takaki's emotional journey over 18 years, divided into three parts. However, the new production will be a single feature film, starring Hokuto Matsumura , a member of the group SixTONES. Directed by Yoshiyuki Okuyama , with a script by Fumiko Suzuki .
The official Japanese theatrical release is scheduled for October 10th . So fans can now prepare to relive, in the flesh, one of the most melancholic and poetic stories in Japanese animation.
