The official website for the manga adaptation of Mizuho Kusanagi , Akatsuki no Yona, has released its first promotional video. The series is scheduled to premiere in October in Japan.
The manga is an “epic fantasy novel set in a ruined country.” The story of Akatsuki no Yona revolves around Yona, the only princess of a great kingdom, who was raised with great care by her loving father and protected by her childhood friend/guard Hak and others. However, her destiny changes on her 16th birthday.
Kazuhiro Yoneda (technical director of Aquarion Evol) is directing the anime at Studio Pierrot (Bleach). Shinichi Inotsume (Hayate Combate Butler, Zettai Karen Children) is in charge of the series scripts, and Maho Yoshikawa (Amnesia) is designing the characters. Kunihiko Ryo (The Twelve Kingdoms, Emma) is composing the music with sound director Yukio Nagasaki (Ao Haru Ride, Love Live!).
Mizuho Kusanagi, the creator of Mugen Spiral and Game X Rush, launched the Akatsuki no Yona manga in 2009, and Hakusensha published volume 14 in April.
