After years of complete silence, the long-awaited live-action Akira movie has finally received a positive sign. In a recent interview with Moovy TV , producer Andrew Lazar revealed that important news should be released "in the coming months," rekindling the hopes of fans of the cyberpunk classic.

The project continues under the direction of Taika Waititi , a filmmaker known for works such as Thor: Ragnarok , Thor: Love and Thunder , and the award-winning Jojo Rabbit . Leonardo DiCaprio a producer, reinforcing the weight of the team involved. Despite countless failed attempts to adapt Akira to live-action over the past 25 years, everything indicates that this version is, in fact, moving forward.

The adaptation received a solid initial confirmation in 2019, with a projected release date of 2021 from Warner Bros. However, the film was eventually removed from the schedule, especially after Waititi prioritized directing Thor: Love and Thunder. Since then, silence prevailed—until now.

It's worth remembering that Akira, originally directed by Katsuhiro Otomo and based on his own manga, is one of the most influential works in the history of anime and cinema. The possibility of seeing Neo-Tokyo reimagined in live-action has always generated high expectations. And although Lazar said that "there's no news yet," the fact that he guarantees updates are coming soon is the strongest confirmation in years that the project is still alive.
