My name is Rafael Alves, known as Shinzo. I created the AnimeNew website in 2009 to offer news about anime, manga, and games directly from Japan.

Unfortunately, the news is terrible for fans who were hoping for the release of the live-action Akira in theaters .

A recent report on the Deadline stated that Warner Bros. has removed the Akira film project from its release schedule.

It's worth remembering that in July, Variety reported that Warner had postponed the film indefinitely, and that production was set to begin this fall, with a release date of May 21, 2021.

Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) was slated to direct and had already announced that he would be delaying production due to Thor: Love and Thunder.

Finally, Waititi said in an interview in April 2018 that he planned to adapt the original manga as opposed to adapting the anime film.
