Synopsis: In the film, the protagonist Kaneda (to be played by Hedlund), a Neo-Manhattan bar owner, is stunned to discover that his brother Tetsuo (to be played in the role) has been kidnapped by government agents led by the Colonel (to be played by Ken Watanabe). Desperate to get his brother back, Kaneda agrees to join Ky Reed (to be played by Kristen Stewart) and her underworld movement, which plans to reveal to the world what really happened to New York City 30 years ago, when the city was destroyed. Kaneda thinks these theories are nonsense, but is shocked when he reunites with Tetsuo and discovers that his brother has telekinetic powers—and is at the center of an event that could destroy Neo-Manhattan all over again.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran produce alongside Andrew Lazar. Katsuhiro Otomo, the creator of the original manga and director of the 1988 animated film, serves as executive producer.
