To the delight of fans, the classic manga " Akira ," an original work by the master "Katsuhiro Otomo," will be republished here in Brazil, this time by JBC publishing house. The manga's return to our country is guaranteed after 17 years since its complicated launch by Globo publishing house.
Akira had been the subject of a long-standing dispute between various publishers due to the author's desire to prohibit its publication outside of Japan; this time, JBC won the battle. The official launch will take place at the Comic-Con Experience in São Paulo .
The story takes place in Neo-Tokyo, a rebuilt Tokyo after its destruction in World War III. It is later revealed that World War III was (supposedly) started by the uncontrollable growth of supernatural powers in a child named Akira. In the plot's real-time 30 years after World War III, a biker gang led by "Kaneda" is involved in a fight with a rival gang when the youngest member of Kaneda's gang, Tetsuo, collides on a highway with a mysterious child who had escaped from a secret government psychic research program. "Tetsuo" is then taken by those responsible for this government program, along with the child, and subjected to various experiments.
