At Anime Expo 2019 , an event being held from July 4th to 7th, it was revealed that the Sunrise anime adaptation of the manga Akira . And not only that, a 4k remaster of the film was also announced! The news was announced on a panel by Katsuhiro Otomo , author of the manga and director of the film.
There are still not many details about the new adaptation, other than that it will not be a continuation of the film and that it will be in TV format. The producers say they want to “get more out of the manga”, so it will probably be a reboot of the series.
Akira is a manga that was published in 1982, and later gained a popular animation in 1988. The story takes place in a dystopian world after the end of World War III. A gang leader known as Kaneda finds himself involved in a massive government operation when his best friend begins exhibiting telekinetic powers.
In Brazil, the work is published by JBC and already has two volumes.
