Akira will receive a new anime

There aren't many details yet about the new adaptation, other than that it won't be a sequel to the film and will be in TV format. The producers say they want to "make better use of the manga," so it will probably be a reboot of the series.

Akira is a manga that was published in 1982 and later became a popular anime in 1988. The story takes place in a dystopian world after the end of World War III. A gang leader known as Kaneda finds himself involved in a massive government operation when his best friend begins to exhibit telekinetic powers.
