Akira will receive a new anime

At Anime Expo 2019 , an event taking place from July 4th to 7th, it was revealed that Sunrise will be responsible for a new anime of the manga Akira . And not only that, a 4K remastering of the film was also announced! The news was announced during a panel with Katsuhiro Otomo , the manga's author and film's director.

There aren't many details yet about the new adaptation, other than that it won't be a sequel to the film and will be a TV series. The producers say they want to "leverage the manga more," so it will likely be a reboot of the series.

Akira is a manga that was published in 1982 and later became a popular animated film in 1988. The story takes place in a dystopian world after the end of World War III. A gang leader known as Kaneda finds himself embroiled in a massive government operation when his best friend begins to exhibit telekinetic powers.

In Brazil, the work is published by JBC and already has two volumes.
