At the beginning of the episode, Anne goes down the river alone to dramatically and romantically portray Lady Elaine from the King Arthur legend. However, the boat begins to fill with water, and the girl, who cannot swim, clings to one of the bridge's pylons. At the last moment, when Anne is almost slipping and falling into the water, Gilbert Blythe appears to save her and proposes that they become friends and leave the past behind. However, the protagonist cannot forgive him and continues not to speak to him.

After the incident, two things upset Anne. She reflects on her response to Gilbert and concludes that it was unnecessarily rude. Furthermore, the protagonist is saddened by having damaged Diana's father's boat and tells her friends that everything she does causes problems for the precious people in her life. Despite this, Anne rethinks the mistakes she has made since arriving at Green Gables and realizes that, despite the flaws, the learning that comes from them is also important. It's no coincidence that the episode is titled "I'm always making mistakes, but every time I make one, I fix something in myself.".
The protagonist discovers her purpose
Teacher Stacy creates a study group to prepare the students of Avonlea school for the Queen's Academy entrance exam and invites Anne to participate. The girl is thrilled. However, she worries about the money, since Queen's Academy is a fee-paying institution. Marilla, noticing the girl's anxiety, reassures her, telling her not to worry, as she and Matthew will support her if she decides to take the exam.
One of the narrative's strengths, besides witnessing Anne's maturation, is following the relationship she gradually builds with her family. Initially, Matthew and Marilla wanted to adopt a boy to help them with chores, but with Anne, they discovered the true meaning of caring for, loving, and supporting another person. The girl was like a light at the end of the tunnel for two adults who no longer seemed to see the sweet side of life.

Besides her adoptive parents, Anne has another important figure in her life. Miss Stacy, who won the girl over from the start, plays a significant role in the protagonist's choices. In one of her classes, the teacher encourages the students to find a purpose, but Anne can't think of anything grand enough to call her "purpose in life." However, after a touching scene involving the teacher and the students, the girl decides that when she grows up, she wants to be a teacher.

Anne Shirley is more than just a work of entertainment
Anne Shirley's work combines coming of age, captivating characters, and relationships in a thrilling and enchanting narrative. Furthermore, the animation, with an aesthetic reminiscent of paintings on canvases, created by The Answer Studio , reinforces the beauty that the protagonist sees in every detail of nature. Now, the girl is 14 years old and enters a new phase of her life: preparing to enter Queen's Academy.
At the end of the episode, Matthew appears to suffer a heart attack. Anne and Marilla are extremely worried about what happened. However, in the next episode, the girl takes the entrance exam for Queen's Academy. So, everything indicates another time jump. Therefore, it's likely they won't elaborate much on Matthew's heart attack.
In addition to receiving her test results, Anne is invited to perform at a concert at the White Sands Hotel. The anime is available on the Crunchyroll platform. Episode 8, titled "I Don't Want to Be Anyone But Myself," will be released on May 24th. Check out the episode preview:
