The Beginning After The End – Arthur's Past
The Orphanage
In the past, Arthur was known as Gray and lived in a dystopian, futuristic Earth. An orphan, he grew up in an orphanage with his childhood friends, Nico Sever and Cecilia. Due to the poverty of the orphanage, Gray and Nico became involved in criminal activities, such as stealing from the rich, to help with the needs of the place. Their lives seemed to continue at this pace until, one day, Gray saved Cecilia from an attack when her ki got out of control. This event marked the beginning of a strong friendship between the three, which seemed unbreakable.
However, everything changed when Cecilia was almost kidnapped by a mysterious organization that called her “legacy”. Even though he managed to save her, Gray returned to the orphanage and found the director dead, which plunged his mind into the search for revenge. Determined to gain power to take revenge, Gray enrolled in the military academy, where he began intense training. Nico and Cecilia followed him, but the relationship between the group began to cool, especially after Gray moved away from his feelings for Cecilia so as not to harm his friendship with Nico.
During training, Gray met Vera, his teacher, who became a mother figure to him. However, the separation between him and his friends only grew. The situation worsened when Cecilia was kidnapped by the same organization, leading Gray and Nico to search for her. But, upon realizing that the government was behind the kidnapping, Gray believed there was nothing more to do, which led to a huge fight between the friends and resulted in their separation.
The fight for the Throne
Months later, a dispute to elect the new king begins. Grey, still trying to reconnect with Nico, encounters Cecília at the competition and believes that Nico is just delusional. Both advance to the final.
Before the final fight, Nico escapes and reveals that he has been held captive. He says that Cecília was being manipulated by an organization, led by Vera, and that she was used due to her naivety. Nico presents evidence and reveals he has a plan to rescue Cecília.
A dismayed Gray cannot believe any of this, believing that Nico is lying and that his evidence was not very convincing before heading to the combat stadium for his final fight against Cecilia. However, Gray discovered that everything Nico said was true and, as a consequence, everything ended in the death of Cecilia, who, seeking freedom and not being treated as a weapon, let Grey's sword kill her. Gray also saw Vera with the man she treated. of kidnapping Cecilia when they were children
All of this caused his friendship with Nico to break down and cause an existential void in him. After that, he started a war that destroyed an entire country (although it is unknown what role he played), presumably Vera's and the one responsible for the legacy.
The Gray King
Ultimately, throughout his later life as Gray King, he avoided any and all long-term attachments; seeing them as weaknesses that others could exploit. Furthermore, by doing so, he hardened his heart and closed off his emotions. He lived like this until the moment of his death and when he thought it was all over, he was reincarnated as Arthur Leywin, at which point he decided to live a life completely different from the one he had lived in his previous world.
