Ash's victory took place in Alola in the current chapter of the anime.
The Pokémon anime has been airing since 1997 and has gone through countless generational changes, settings, and characters, but one thing has always remained the same: protagonist Ash Ketchum has never won a Pokémon League—until now. In the episode aired on September 15th , the character won in Alola and finally became a champion.
During Sunday (15), fans took the opportunity to remember the character's journey, with many pointing out that the decision to make Ash suffer so much is to demonstrate to the children's audience that it is common to fail and learn from their defeats, in order to grow.
Ash's victory also raises some questions about the anime's continuity. As the next generation of Pokémon approaches with the release of Pokémon: Sword & Shield on Nintendo Switch , rumors have already begun circulating that the trainer will not be the protagonist of the upcoming animation, which will be called simply Pocket Monsters in Japan – just like the classic 1997 cartoon.
Pokémon anime premieres in Japan on September 29. Regardless, Ash can finally rest a little after completing his greatest goal.
