Nintendo's next-generation hybrid console could be getting one of the most anticipated games of the year. According to information released by PEGI, the European video game rating agency, Assassin's Creed Shadows is in development for the Switch 2. The information was quickly taken down, but it provided solid clues about Ubisoft's plans.

If confirmed, the adaptation marks the French developer's second major title for the Nintendo Switch's successor. Previously, Star Wars Outlaws had already been officially listed as part of the new console's catalog, with a release date set for September 4th.
Ubisoft reinforces support for Nintendo's new console
Ubisoft has always demonstrated a willingness to support Nintendo's platform. On the original Switch, titles from the Assassin's Creed franchise arrived through collections and remasters. Now, with the technical advancements promised by the Switch 2, the developer can expand this partnership.
Assassin's Creed Shadows, originally released in March for other platforms, is an open-world title that demands high graphics performance. On the new console, the game is expected to utilize advanced features such as ray tracing and upscaling techniques offered by NVIDIA. These tools would be essential for maintaining a good frame rate without compromising visual quality.
The franchise's history with portable devices also favors adaptation. The game already runs on the Steam Deck, demonstrating its viability on mobile systems with similar hardware.
Removed evidence raises expectations
Despite removing mention of the Switch 2 from its website, PEGI has not officially denied the version's existence. The sudden removal from the platform could indicate a premature leak, which often occurs in public records before official announcements.
Ubisoft's silence on the matter raises even more speculation. With Star Wars Outlaws debuting on the same system, it's unlikely that Assassin's Creed Shadows will be left out, especially since it's one of the company's most recognized brands.
The decision would also be strategic. Given the new console's sales potential, the presence of a strong title like Assassin's Creed would help boost launch sales. The French company has already adopted this approach before, releasing remakes and collections of the saga for the original Switch.
