Simon Lemay-Comtois, associate director of the game, stated that the development was designed to please both veterans and new players. “Players will be able to experience a new posture and skiing mechanics that integrate directly with parkour” , explained the director, highlighting the commitment to offering a dynamic and strategic experience.
Control changes increase fluidity and immersion in Assassin's Creed Shadows
One of the main new features is the change in control buttons. On Xbox, the X button (square on PlayStation) will be used to crouch or crawl, depending on the duration of the command. The B button (circle on PlayStation) will integrate parkour movements and dodging, allowing quick changes of posture without compromising the character's stability.
This update aims to improve the accuracy of actions, avoiding common mistakes such as unwanted falls from roofs or accidental climbs. Additionally, the new dynamics make combat and exploration more strategic, encouraging players to plan their actions carefully.
New animations and limitations bring freshness to parkour
The game will feature new animations, such as rooftop jumps combined with rolls, which create more dynamic opportunities to eliminate enemies. However, unlike previous titles, players will not be able to climb all surfaces. Ubisoft made this change to make exploration more challenging and realistic.
Players will need to evaluate the scenarios carefully, using the hook — one of the available tools — to access specific areas. Thus, this feature adds a puzzle element to the gameplay, requiring creativity in movement.
Protagonists with distinct exploration styles
Another innovation in Assassin's Creed Shadows is the differentiation between the two protagonists, Naoe and Yasuke. Therefore, each person will have unique abilities to navigate the scenarios, highlighting their personalities and combat styles. According to Lemay-Comtois, this approach allows players to choose strategies that better align with their profile.
With versions confirmed for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, the new title arrives surrounded by expectations. Between the innovations and the return of classic movements, Assassin's Creed Shadows promises to renew the franchise and please fans who are eagerly awaiting the next adventure.
