Sony surprised fans by announcing a free expansion for the PlayStation 5 exclusive game Astro Bot. Sony will release the new Winter Wonder content on Thursday, December 12th, at 10 PM (Brasilia time). The update includes a brand new level, but requires players to have completed the base game to access it.

According to Nicolas Doucet, director of the Team Asobi studio, the initiative is a way to thank the community for the positive reception of the title. "Since the launch of Astro Bot, we have been inundated with lovely comments, and we are delighted with the critical response to the game worldwide ," Doucet stated in an official press release.
What to expect from Winter Wonder
The new level features a festive setting, highlighted by a huge Christmas tree in the center of the map. While not revealing many details, Doucet described the expansion as "full of fun, with shiny presents, a good dose of bells, and special new robots to integrate into the team." Doucet assured that the content appeals to both children and adults and offers more accessible challenges than the demanding speedruns released previously.
The setting promises to capture the Christmas spirit, with visual elements reminiscent of the holiday season. A single image released shows a world illuminated and full of themed decorations, reinforcing the game's appeal as a celebration of nostalgia and the magic of the PlayStation universe.
Astro Bot is a critical and commercial success
Astro Bot has established itself as one of the highest-rated PS5 games, selling 1.5 million units in the first two months after its release. IGN Brazil's review gave the title a 9/10, describing it as "an incredible adventure that celebrates the history of video games and PlayStation in a nostalgic and fun way.".
