Sony surprised fans by announcing a free expansion for the PlayStation 5-exclusive game Astro Bot. Sony will release the new Winter Wonder content on Thursday, December 12, at 10 PM ET. The update includes a new level, but requires players to have completed the base game to access it.

According to Nicolas Doucet, studio director at Team Asobi, the initiative is a way to thank the community for the positive reception to the title. "Since the launch of Astro Bot, we've been inundated with lovely comments, and we're thrilled with the critical response to the game worldwide," Doucet said in an official statement.
What to expect from Winter Wonder
The new level features a festive setting, highlighted by a massive Christmas tree in the center of the map. While not revealing many details, Doucet described the expansion as "full of fun, with shiny presents, a healthy dose of bells, and new special robots to join the team." Doucet assured that the content will appeal to both children and adults and offers more accessible challenges than the demanding speedruns previously released.
The setting promises to capture the Christmas spirit, with visual elements reminiscent of the holiday season. A single image released shows a world lit up and filled with themed decorations, reinforcing the game's appeal as a celebration of nostalgia and the magic of the PlayStation universe.
Astro Bot's critical and public success
Astro Bot has established itself as one of the best-reviewed games on the PS5, selling 1.5 million units in the first two months after its release. IGN Brazil's review gave the game a 9/10, describing it as "an incredible adventure that celebrates the history of video games and PlayStation in a nostalgic and fun way."
