Sony surprised fans by announcing a free expansion for the PlayStation 5 exclusive Astro Bot game. Sony will release the new Winter Wonder content on Thursday, December 12th at 10pm (Brasília time). The update includes a new level, but requires players to have completed the base game to access it.

According to Nicolas Doucet, director of the Team Asobi studio, the initiative is a way of thanking the community for the positive reception to the title. “Since the launch of Astro Bot, we have been inundated with lovely feedback, and we are delighted with the critical response to the game around the world ,” said Doucet in an official statement.
What to expect from Winter Wonder
The new level features a festive setting, highlighted by a huge Christmas tree in the center of the map. Despite not revealing many details, Doucet described the expansion as “full of fun, with shiny gifts, a good dose of bells and special new robots to join the team”. Doucet ensured that the content appeals to both children and adults and offers more accessible challenges than the demanding speedruns previously released.
The setting promises to capture the Christmas spirit, with visual elements that refer to the end of year festivities. A single image released shows an illuminated world full of themed decorations, which reinforces the game's appeal as a celebration of nostalgia and the magic of the PlayStation universe.
Critical and public success of Astro Bot
Astro Bot established itself as one of the best-rated games on the PS5, selling 1.5 million units in the first two months after launch. The IGN Brasil analysis gave the title a 9/10, describing it as “an incredible adventure that celebrates the history of video games and PlayStation in a nostalgic and fun way”.
