Attack on Titan – Eren's voice actor talks about the protagonist's controversial decision
Yuki Kaji was asked what were the most memorable scenes he's experienced throughout his voice acting career. The first scene that came to mind was Eren's regret for killing so many innocent people.
Check it out:
Eren's words of regret as he's about to kill someone in the final part. Conflicts divide us between "friends and other people," but other people have their own lives too. I realized this again when he said "I'm sorry" with tears in his eyes. It was very difficult for me to understand his painful feelings.
In this aforementioned scene, Eren cries and expresses his guilt as he watches everyone in front of him brutally murdered. His voice actor also states in the interview that he delved deeply into his emotions to bring this scene to life.
“For voice actors, crying scenes are fine, as long as they sound like they're crying. But this time, I really couldn't stop crying. I was so in tune with his feelings that I had to stop recording. It was a shocking experience for me, both as a performer and as a voice actor. I'd never done anything like it before. I'll forget the joy of becoming one with the role and the pain of knowing he did it.”
