Mushoku Tensei author comments on the anime's controversial 6th episode

In episode six of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II, protagonist Rudeus Greyrat purchases a child slave named Julie (voiced by Sumire Morohoshi). Once again, the anime sparked controversy, as its previous season even included a discussion of sexual attraction to pre-teen girls.

The author of the work, Rifujin na Magonote, commented on the topic of slavery via Twitter this Sunday. Rifujin na Magonote wrote:

About Rudeus: He doesn't really harbor any hatred toward slavery. He feels that it's not necessarily the case that all slaves are universally more unhappy as slaves than they were before becoming slaves. Therefore, while kidnapping is a bad thing, he can't say for sure that slavery itself is evil, and he doesn't want to impose his own sense of justice on a culture he's unfamiliar with.

Rifujin na Magonote added additional details about his series in subsequent tweets on Sunday. He wrote that Rudeus' cousin Luke had his own share of troubles while living in a female dorm. The author is alluding to the fact that Fitz (Sylphiette, disguised as a man) lives in the female dorm, while fellow guard Luke's residence is not explicitly stated. In the tweet, Rifujin na Magonote confirms that Luke is in the same dorm and is known to enjoy the company of women.
