Nichijou

The beloved comedy manga 'Nichijou' first ended in 2015 with 10 volumes. But in October 2021, manga creator Keiichi Arawi picked up the series again after light-heartedly announcing on Twitter that he wanted to draw it again.

Author of the manga 'Nichijou' reveals why he resumed the work after 6 years

Last Monday, manga news site 'Manga Passion' published an interview with Arawi that goes into more detail about his motivations for returning. He commented that he initially ended the manga because of exhaustion and that his plan was to transition to the less strenuous work of illustrating novels. However, after taking a break, he discovered that he still had a hunger to create manga.

Fan mail also played an important role. Arawi revealed that he was moved by how he continued to receive letters from all over the world, even years after the manga ended.

As for his plans for the series' future, Arawi gave a rambling and amusing response:

Travel the world, get in touch with people who like Nichijō, enjoy alcohol and delicacies from different regions, open your heart to others, comfort people and let them comfort you, get drunk and hungover the next day, watch to a local football team game, say goodbye to familiar faces, meet new people somewhere else, draw landscape paintings there, sell them and start a new life, meet a nice person, fall in love, start a romance, having children somewhere between fight and reconciliation and then drawing a manga about raising children.

As such, somewhere within this very elaborate plan, he also said that he intends to continue working on Nichijō.

Synopsis

While the title suggests a simple story of school life (nichijou means diary/daily life), the content is completely the opposite. The story takes place in a strange school where you can see the main characters fighting and doing strange things. However, there are still normal stories, like making a house of cards or taking a test. Follow the unusual and super fun day-to-day lives of these high school students. Everything is very unusual!
