Square Enix, together with the Gangan Online web manga , will adapt the work “ Barakamon ” by author Satsuki Yoshino for the small screen.
The comedy revolves around Handa Seishuu , a young Calligrapher, who is sent to an island west of Japan after a certain incident. On the first day of his new life in the countryside, Sensei, as he began to be called, meets the simple and innocent Naru, a child from the island.
Yoshino launched the manga in 2009, and Square Enix released the compiled volume in September. The volumes sold more than 1.8 million copies. Yoshino will launch a spinoff manga, titled “Handa-kun,” in the monthly magazine Shonen Gangan. The spinoff manga will take place six years before Barakamon, and will follow Seishu when he was still in school.
The company Kinema Citrus (Yuyushiki, Code:Breaker) will take over the animation. The anime is scheduled to be released on Nippon TV later this year.
