Toei Animation's sources regarding Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (Kami to Kami) appear to have come true. In its third week of release, the film continues to perform well at the box office, having already grossed over 2 billion yen ( US$41 million ), making it the first Japanese film of 2013 to achieve this feat in such a short period of time. In its first weekend of release, the film grossed approximately 680 million yen (US$14 million). 1,823,141 tickets have been sold so far, and even higher sales are expected during Golden Week, the Japanese spring break.
Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods premiered on March 30th in 312 theaters and still comfortably holds the top spot in the rankings of most-watched films in Japan. Toei Animation predicts a final box office take of 3 billion yen (US$60 million) for the film. Japanese audiences will have six weeks to see Goku and company's new adventure in theaters.
