Intent on avenging Shiro Fujimoto's death, Rin aspires to become an exorcist. But to do so, he must complete a special exorcist course that few people know about.
Thus, the Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist) manga series, written and illustrated by Katou Kazue, debuted in Shueisha's monthly Jump Square magazine in April 2009. However, the first season of the anime was released in 2011 by the animation studio A-1 Pictures, with 25 episodes.
