Synopsis:

The story begins with Japan's elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, prompting the Japan Football Union to launch a program to recruit high school players who will begin training for the 2022 World Cup. Isagi Yoichi, a striker, receives an invitation to this program shortly after his team misses out on qualifying for the national tournament.

Their coach, Ego Jinpachi, intends to "end Japan's failing football" by introducing a radical new training regime: isolating 300 young strikers in a prison-like institution called "Blue Lock" and putting them through rigorous training with the goal of creating "The best striker in the world."
