Synopsis
The story begins with Japan's elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, causing the Japan Football Union to begin a search program for high school players who will begin training for the 2022 World Cup. Isagi Yoichi, a striker, receives an invitation to this program shortly after his team lost the chance to go to Nacional because he passed to his less skilled teammate – who failed – without trying to score the decisive goal himself. Their coach will be Ego Jinpachi, who aims to "end Japan's failed football" by introducing a radical new training regime: isolating 300 young strikers in a prison-like institution called "Blue Lock" and putting them through rigorous training with the objective of creating “The best striker in the world”.
The Blue Lock anime is scheduled to premiere this year.
Kaneshiro and Nomura launched the Blue Lock manga in Weekly Shounen in August 2018. The work won the “Best Shounen Manga” award at publisher Kodansha last year.
