It's undeniable that Bocchi the Rock! is one of the most popular anime of the Fall 2022, currently holding second place in the ranking of the highest-rated series of the season according to MyAnimeList, behind only Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War and above Chainsaw Man.

However, this numerical superiority exists even though "the Bocchi" that appears in the anime adaptation isn't entirely faithful to what appears in the manga. We're not referring to her attitude, which is socially awkward in both media, but to her physical attributes. Fans of the original work already had doubts about this, but the most recent episode ended up confirming it.

Before a stage performance, Bocchi attends a Maid Cafe, so obviously she has to wear the characteristic outfit to serve the customers. In the original manga, Bocchi could barely fit her large breasts into the outfit, but in the anime adaptation it was reduced. Yes, it's a nerf, and one of the weakest.

The production had already hinted in previous episodes that Bocchi's breasts were smaller than in the original manga, but the latest episode was the perfect proof to demonstrate this fact. Why was this decision made? There are no clues as to the possible reason, although perhaps the production wanted Bocchi to become popular among fans because of her personality and not because of her body, something they definitely achieved. Would Bocchi's popularity have been different if she had kept her large breasts? After all, let's remember that the manga has gone largely unnoticed until now.

Synopsis:

Hitori “Bocchi” Gotou, lonely and eager to mingle with others, spends her time playing the guitar. One fateful day, Bocchi meets the extroverted drummer Nijika Ijichi, who invites her to join the Kessoku Band when their guitarist, Ikuyo Kita, runs away before their first show. Soon after, Bocchi meets her newest partner, the brilliant bassist Ryou Yamada.

Although their first performance together is mediocre, the girls are strengthened by their shared love of music, and Kita soon rejoins them. Finding happiness in performing, Bocchi and her classmates put all their efforts into improving as musicians while making the most of their fleeting high school days.
