Boku no Hero ended leaving a mystery unanswered

Boku no Hero the series' biggest mystery remains unanswered

The final chapter of Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia), titled “More” 431, brought answers to several curiosities and controversies, but left a central question unresolved: who is Deku's father? Although Kohei Horikoshi , the series' author, promised to reveal Hisashi Midoriya, Deku's father, in the last chapters, he never appeared. This absence frustrated fans who had been waiting for this revelation for years.

Horikoshi , in several interviews over the years, mentioned that Hisashi was working abroad and would return at some point to reunite with Deku and his wife, Inko Midoriya. However, the epilogue did not mention him at all. The author did not explain why he decided not to include the character, but there are some hypotheses that could justify his absence.

Why did Deku never meet his father?

Since events like San Diego Comic Con 2018, Horikoshi has frequently answered questions about Hisashi by stating, "Deku's father will be revealed in the future." The promise in Boku no Hero, however, was never fulfilled, leaving fans to speculate as to why. Horikoshi confirmed few details about Hisashi: he has a Quirk that allows him to breathe fire and is out of Japan for work reasons.

Some possible reasons for his absence include a lack of time to develop a full character arc. As the story progressed into more battle-focused arcs like the Paranormal Liberation War, Deku's family moments took a backseat. Inserting Hisashi in these contexts could seem forced, diverting the focus from the development of already established villains and heroes.

Thus, another reason could be the priority given to other characters. Horikoshi concluded arcs for already introduced heroes and villains, and including Hisashi would take up valuable time in the narrative.

The bond between Deku and his mother, Inko Midoriya

Despite Hisashi's absence, the Boku no Hero series took the opportunity to strengthen Deku's relationship with his mother, Inko. Since childhood, Inko has been a fundamental pillar for Deku, supporting his dreams of becoming the number one hero, even after discovering he was Quirkless. When Deku inherited One For All , she balanced her support with genuine concerns for her son's safety.

Inko has been shown to be a loving and protective mother, even designing Deku's first hero costume. Despite disagreements, such as her initial resistance to the idea of Deku living in the UA dorms, she always sought what was best for him. His trust in his son and UA teachers helped Deku grow as a person and a hero.

Although Hisashi was not revealed, the bond between Deku and Inko made up for some of this absence. Finally, Inko is an example of a mother who, with love and care, did everything in her power to support her son on his journey, showing that, even without his father's presence, Deku was never alone.
