To celebrate the franchise's 20th anniversary, this month, the animated adaptation produced by Madhouse is being re-aired in Japan, a compiled book of illustrations was published in March, and several themed events are taking place across the country. Additionally, CLAMP will release the sequel to Cardcaptor Sakura on June 3rd.

Nakayoshi magazine, which published Cardcaptor Sakura from May 1996 to June 2000, revealed that the manga sold over 12 million copies in Japan; in Brazil it was published by JBC. There are also two films: Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie , which premiered in 1999, and Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card, in 2000.

The new manga will take place during Sakura's first year of high school, after graduating from Tomoeda Elementary School. She will have a mysterious dream, and then an incident will occur.
