Yu-gi-oh! Author's Cause of Death Revealed

Yu-Gi-Oh! manga creator revealed on Monday that Takahashi died by drowning on July 6. It is unlikely that this was the result of a criminal act.

The Japan Coast Guard found Takahashi off the coast of Nago City, Okinawa, on the morning of July 6. He was 60 years old.

Authorities reportedly found Takahashi equipped with diving gear. Both the Coast Guard and the police are investigating the events leading up to the author's death. A person on a passing boat called Japan's maritime hotline to report a body floating 300 meters (about 1,000 feet) off the coast of the tourist city of Nago at approximately 10:30 a.m. on July 6.

The author published the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1996 to 2004.
