Chainsaw Man - Guilherme Briggs abandons dubbing after threats from fans

As everyone knows, the anime Chainsaw Man was a huge success in 2022, and as a result, the series is embroiled in a major controversy here in Brazil. After receiving several death threats from several Brazilian fans, Brazilian voice actor Guilherme Briggs decided to leave the series' dubbing team .

Hardcore fans claim they didn't like the dubbing result in a specific part of the anime.

In general, the original phrase from a scan that resulted in the dub being removed was the Future Demon's line " The future is top! The future is top! ", which was the reason for the fight. In the scan we can read " The future is p#ka " which was popular on the internet, meaning it is not an official translation by Shueisha .

In the anime dub, the adaptation was " The future is great! ", something much lighter and wouldn't cause problems. However, this same group that criticized Panini decided to attack Guilherme Briggs. The reason: the voice actor tried to explain on social media why the adaptation was made, just as the phrase in the scan would be a bad thing for the official material.

Therefore, due to the attacks, Guilherme Briggs decided to withdraw from the Chainsaw Man dubbing team.

Synopsis:

The story takes place in a world where demons are born from human fears. While they are generally dangerous and malevolent, humans can form contracts with demons to use some of their power. Denji is a depressed young man trying to repay his late father's debt to the yakuza by selling several of his organs and working as a demon hunter.

Fujimoto launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in December 2018, finishing the first arc in December 2020 with 11 volumes.
