During the 2025-2026 Programming Press Conference , Toei President and CEO Fumio Yoshimura announced the release of the company's new project, the ChaO .

The film is expected to premiere in the summer , between June and August 2025. Studio 4°C's official X profile released a promotional image to announce the release. Check it out below:
Therefore, Studio 4°C (Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen I) and producer Eiko Tanaka have secretly developed the new animated film over the past 7 years. During the Conference, Tanaka stated that the artists drew the anime by hand and produced over 100,000 drawings .
ChaO Synopsis:
A future society where humans and mermaids coexist. Stephen, an office worker, is suddenly asked to get married by ChaO, a princess from the mermaid kingdom! A 100% pure love story!
Yasuhiro Aoki (Kimagure Robot) is the director, Hirokazu Kojima (Deadman Wonderland) is the character designer and chief animation director, and Hiroshi Takiguchi (Ajin) is the art director.
About Toei's new projects
Yoshimura took the stage and gave a statement about Toei's future projects: “It has been three years since we began to reform under former president Osamu Tezuka, and we have an aggressive schedule […] we will focus even more on anime in partner with a wide range of production companies, not just Toei anime works, and deliver beloved stories to the world centered on anime works. Toei that makes you cry.”
