The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is releasing a series of horizontal artworks to promote the second film, which premieres this year on December 13th. The third and final installment, The Hobbit: There and Back Again , premieres on December 19th, 2014.

The three films tell a continuous story set in Middle-earth, 60 years before The Lord of the Rings. In The Hobbit , an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien , the wizard Gandalf ( Ian McKellen ) and the 13 dwarves who make up his company hire Bilbo Baggins ( Martin Freeman ) for a journey to the Lonely Mountain, where they will attempt to reclaim the dwarves' homeland from the dragon Smaug (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch the Lord of the Rings trilogy .
