“ When you work at a game company, that’s how it is. I’ve worked on big titles in the past, but I have no rights over them. People say I should go back to the old titles, and I have to remind them that I don’t have that option. Not being able to meet the fans’ expectations bothers me, but with this independent project I will be able to act according to the demand ,” says Inafune.
The graphics in Mighty No. 9 bear a strong resemblance to the Capcom franchise, featuring a robotic character and two-dimensional gameplay. The story follows the adventures of robot number 9, one of the few not infected by a virus plaguing humanity.
According to Inafune's description, the game will revitalize mechanics from the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. The game is already in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC and is expected to be released in 2015. The Kickstarter campaign, which has already raised over US$2.5 million, ends in four days.
