" When you work at a game company, it's like that. I've worked on big titles in the past, but I have no rights to them. People say I should go back to the old titles, but I have to remind them that I don't have that option. Not being able to live up to fans' expectations bothers me, but with this independent project, I'll be able to respond to demand ," says Inafune.
The screenshots of Mighty No. 9 bear a strong resemblance to the Capcom franchise, featuring a robotic character and two-dimensional gameplay. The story follows the adventures of robot No. 9, one of the few not to be infected by a virus ravaging humanity.
According to Inafune's description, the game will revitalize mechanics from the 8- and 16-bit eras. The game is already in development for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC and is expected to be released in 2015. The Kickstarter campaign, which has already raised over $2.5 million, ends in four days.
