Oresuki OVA
Oresuki OVA

OVA – Original Video Anime: Firstly, an OVA is characterized by being exclusively available on DVDs/Blu-rays, meaning it is not broadcast on TV. Furthermore, these episodes are not part of the original anime storyline, and may delve deeper into a specific plot point or be something completely different from the original story.

OAD – Original Animation DVD: Basically, it has the same characteristics as an OVA. However, with the addition that when purchased, it comes with a manga or a game! An example of this would be volume 12 of the manga To Love-Ru: Darkness, which came with a DVD.

ONA – Original Net Animation: Here, they are released exclusively on streaming platforms, such as Crunchyroll or Funimation, which are the official platforms in Brazil. An episode may appear on TV if the broadcaster purchases it, but it's usually only available online.

Key Anime Terms

SPIN-OFFS: These are derivative works. That is, they basically use elements from a specific anime, such as powers and world characteristics. And because they are like a parallel or alternative universe, it's very common for the characters in spin-offs not to be the usual protagonists of the original work.

PV – Promotional Video: This is just a short video, usually 30 seconds long. Often shown on television or at some event, frequently to announce the new season of an anime.

TRAILER: Now you might ask the difference between a PV and a 'trailer'. But basically, a trailer is about 3 minutes long and shows many scenes from the work, and may even give away several spoilers to fans.

TEASER : However, in addition to PVs and Trailers, we have Teasers, which are classified as a middle ground between the two above. This is because Teasers are about 30 seconds to 1 minute long. On the other hand, they show several unreleased scenes, but in an enigmatic way, without revealing anything to the fans, only teasing them.

Well folks, that was our special list for the day. I hope you enjoyed it, leave a comment if you knew all these terms and until next time!
