Get to know Claymore
Norihiro Yagi wrote and illustrated the manga , which Shueisha published in Jump Square magazine from 2001 to 2014. The work was adapted into an anime in 2007, with a total of 26 episodes .
The story takes place in a fictional world similar to medieval Europe , divided into 47 countries . In this world, the author presents humans coexisting with creatures called Youma , monsters that feed on human entrails.
Youma are able to take on the form of their victims, absorbing the memories and personality of their prey. This allows them to deceive friends and family and infiltrate villages to feed without raising suspicion.
In an attempt to combat the creatures, a secret organization creates an order of modified female warriors , with the goal of protecting humans: the Claymores . The name comes from the immense Claymore swords wielded in combat by these warriors.
After their creation, the villages threatened by the Youma hire the Claymores to exterminate the monsters.
The organization responsible for creating the warriors is the only one that has direct contact with them. It manages both the services requested by the cities and the internal services requested by the organization itself.
The requests to annihilate Youma come at a very high cost , and payment is only made upon successful completion of the mission. A man in black always collects the money upon visiting the city shortly after leaving the Claymore.
If the warrior dies without completing her task, no payment is required. Rumors circulate that the monsters consecutive attacks decimated the cities that refused to pay, without receiving any response or help from the organization.
