Warner Bros. Chohei Kambayashi 's science fiction book Yukikaze , and none other than Tom Cruise has just been announced as one of the stars of the project.
Yukikaze is a rare Japanese science fiction series that does not feature giant robots: after the interdimensional invasion of an alien force called JAM, the UN establishes a special Air Force to send the aliens back to their dimension, in a secret war that involves espionage, clones and aerial battles with high-tech fighters.
Want to get an idea of what's coming? There is already a series of OVAs (direct-to-video animation) by Gonzo and Bandai Visual studios, which came out from 2002 to 2005. See below an excerpt of an aerial combat from the anime:

Kambayashi wrote three books in the series, published in 1984, 1999 and 2009. Tom Cruise's return to the fighter planes, which made him famous with Top Gun, has no release date yet. But will Tom Cruise have an excuse to do what he does best in a film where he flies planes?
