Through the official Twitter account, Suisei no gargantia has been greenlit for a sequel. Details can be found on the anime's official website. The announcement was also made in a commercial for the Tokyo MX channel, which is already re-airing the anime.

In Suisei no Gargantia, during an intense battle, young Lieutenant Red and his humanoid weapon, Chamber, fall into a time-space distortion. After awakening from his induced hibernation, Red realizes he is on Earth, a planet completely submerged by oceans, where the population must live on large ships.
