Have you ever wondered which countries consume the most anime in the world? Taking advantage of the Proclamation of the Republic holiday here in Brazil, we decided to break from the routine and bring you something special: a list of places where the love for anime transcends borders! Researching online, we gathered interesting data and prepared this ranking full of curiosities to celebrate the date in a fun and geeky way. Shall we check it out?

List of countries that watch the most anime

First, as you can see from the table, this information was collected in October 2020. In other words, it's been over a year since this information was released, and we haven't found any more recent data on the same topic. In any case, here are the 10 countries where anime is most popular!

On the other hand, we can mention several countries that are truly surprising to be on the list. For example, we can highlight the Philippines and Indonesia, which are countries I never imagined would have such a high rate of adoption of Japanese culture. However, there are still many variables to consider, such as their population, average age, and other factors that compromise their placement on the list.

1. Japan

So, let's first highlight Japan, which is the origin of most anime and manga worldwide. Thus, the Japanese dominated the entertainment industry for years, but recently we've seen their neighbors rise to prominence as well, with works like Tower of God, The God of High School, and Solo Leveling.

Finally, Japan certainly couldn't be left out of this list, where we can highlight its 9th place. However, I sincerely believed it would be in the top 5, as it is the origin of most of the works. In any case, perhaps the high workload or their rigid culture affects otaku there.

2. China

Now, let's mention China, which is number one on the list! It's also worth mentioning that it's the country with the largest population in the world, with over 1 billion inhabitants—meaning 1/7 of the world is within China. Furthermore, it's also among the top 5 countries with the largest territory! So, this data certainly significantly influenced their ranking.

3. Brazil

And finally, let's talk about our beloved country. It's very well represented in 4th place. So, it's really cool to see how Japanese culture has been well-received here in the West, especially in Brazil. Furthermore, streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Prime have increasingly invested in anime, which has certainly increased the number of fans of Japanese works.

Well, everyone, that was our very special list celebrating the Proclamation of the Republic. So, I hope you enjoyed it, leave a comment, and enjoy the rest of the holiday.
