Crunchyroll acquires rights to the Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon movie

Crunchyroll announced via X that it has acquired the worldwide rights (excluding Asia) to the film Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryū .

The film features a new cast: Fumihiko Tachiki as Kimun Kamui and Nobunaga Shimazaki as Azad. But it also guarantees the return of the voice actors from the anime series: Mutsumi Tamura as Kobayashi, Yūki Kuwahara as Tohru, and Maria Naganawa as Kanna.

Shiori Sugiura voices Ilulu in the film, replacing Tomomi Mineuchi , who stopped voicing the character in 2022.

The film will be released on June 27, 2025 , and will be shown in 199 theaters in Japan, with immersive screenings in 4DX and MX4D. The film will be shown in the United States in Japanese with English subtitles, with the official title being Dragon Maid: A Lonely Dragon Wants to be Loved .

In Brazil, the film's theatrical release has not yet been confirmed, but with distribution by Crunchyroll, it may arrive on the streaming service with Portuguese subtitles.

Synopsis of the new Kobayashi-san movie

The peaceful lives of Miss Kobayashi, Tohru, Kanna, and Iruru are shattered when Kanna's father, Kamun Kamui, leader of the Forces of Chaos , arrives and forces her to return to the Dragon World to right a wrong from the past. With a war brewing between Chaos and Harmony , Kanna must find a way to unite the two worlds, but is torn between her loyalty to her friends and her father's demands. Miss Kobayashi, however, refuses to let her go and tries to mend the broken bond between Kanna and Kamui. As the dragons clash, Iruru discovers a hidden force manipulating the war. Can they stop the war before it consumes both worlds?
