The first season of Dandadan had exciting moments, but, like any series, it had its ups and downs. Episode 11, while not maintaining the standard of the best episodes, felt transitional and rushed. Some of these issues impacted episode 12, turning it into yet another patchwork episode.

Episode 12, titled “Let’s Go to the Haunted House,” managed to regain momentum, delivering a finale that balanced chaotic comedy, terrifying enemies, and a mystery. Despite the effort, the season finale left a mixed feeling, with some moments that could have been better developed in the conclusion.
Jiji shines as the charismatic character of Dandadan

From his first appearance, Jiji won over fans with his infectious charisma and almost exaggerated energy. However, what makes Jiji truly interesting is his duality. Beneath the positive surface, there's a dark side that episode 12 explores by revealing that the yokai haunting his house is directly linked to him.
Furthermore, his childhood connection with Momo adds layers to the story, especially in the impact it has on Okarun. Jiji acts as a catalyst, pushing Okarun beyond his comfort zone and causing him to become more active in the story.
Dandadan continues to play with genres

Dandadan 's trademarks is its ability to seamlessly transition between genres. From high school romance to intense action, the anime maintains its essence while exploring different tones. In the final episode, the story takes on an almost Scooby-Doo- , with Momo, Okarun, and Jiji investigating the mysteries of Jiji's hometown.
The new enemies introduced, seemingly ordinary citizens, add an air of suspense, with piercing gazes and an unsettling presence. This change in tone enhanced the fun, but left questions about the direction the series will take in the future.
What to expect from season 2 of Dandadan?

Despite some questionable narrative decisions, the season finale delivered lukewarm suspense, with Momo's life hanging by a thread and the mystery of Jiji's house still unsolved. This unresolved cliffhanger at the end of the season suggested that the entire 12th episode should have been the beginning of the second season.
In turn, Dandadan has the potential to surpass itself in its second season. The biggest challenge will be maintaining a balance between genres and production quality. Stay tuned to AnimeNews for more news about the series and its second season!
