Dandadan exceeded expectations: says Jump editor

Dandadan manga debuted as an anime in the fall 2024 season and quickly gained fans around the world. The story follows students Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura (Okarun), who become involved with ghosts, aliens and supernatural creatures. Momo believes in ghosts, thanks to her psychic grandmother, while Okarun is fascinated by aliens.

A simple challenge between the two to prove who is right ends up revealing that they are both right — and that these beings are much more dangerous than they imagined.

With an electrifying narrative, high-quality animation and captivating characters, the anime was an immediate success. So much so that, after the last episode of the first season, a second season was announced to continue the adventures of Momo and Okarun. During New Year's celebrations, Shonen Jump editor Shihei Lin highlighted the success of Dandadan , commenting that the anime exceeded the production team's expectations.

Shonen Jump editor comments on Dandadan's success:

In his post on Platform X, the editor shared:

The TV anime Dandadan, which began airing in October after detailed discussions, reached number one on several streaming platforms around the world. We are also grateful for the huge increase in reprints of the original manga.

He continued:

The anime exceeded the production team's expectations, and we are very happy that people all over the world are enjoying it. The second season is expected to premiere next year and we will do our best to ensure audiences continue to enjoy it.

What to expect from the 2nd season of the anime?

The end of the first season, in December 2024, left fans anxious with a big cliffhanger: Jiji and Okarun discover a secret room in the Cursed House, while Momo faces the dangerous Kito Family. Thus, the second season, which premieres in July 2025, will adapt the Cursed House and Evil Eye arcs, promising more action and exciting twists.
