The Dead Space series, which marked the survival horror genre with its space setting and terrifying monsters, will not have a new sequel. Glen Schofield, creator of the original game and now responsible for The Callisto Protocol, stated that Electronic Arts (EA) decided to cancel plans for Dead Space 4. The information was shared in an interview with the Dan Allen Gaming channel.
- Metroid Prime 4 could come to Nintendo Switch 2 according to rumors
- New Darth Vader skin is featured in Fortnite
Schofield revealed that the project did not advance beyond the initial planning stage. “We tried to make Dead Space 4 this year [2024]. We didn't even go into details, they just said they weren't interested. They thanked us and that was all ,” he said. The producer demonstrated respect for the developer's decision, highlighting that the discussions took place in a professional manner.
Remember the success of Dead Space
Created in 2008, Dead Space quickly established itself as one of the scariest games in the industry. With a dark setting on a spaceship and enemies known as Necromorphs, the title stood out for its constant tension and immersive narrative. The success led to two direct sequels, as well as spin-offs that expanded the game's universe.
In 2023, the release of Dead Space Remake reignited interest in the franchise. The title revisited the original game with improved graphics and gameplay adjustments, receiving praise from critics and players. Despite this, EA chose not to move forward with a new sequel.
Change of direction and new projects
Glen Schofield, currently at the helm of Striking Distance Studios, continues to explore the genre he helped define. His latest work, The Callisto Protocol, is largely inspired by Dead Space and seeks to offer an equally immersive and terrifying experience.
Although the game remains without new releases, fans still have the opportunity to revisit the universe through the remake and previous works. However, the cancellation ends, at least for now, hopes of a direct continuation that would expand the franchise's legacy.
