Kadokawa has confirmed that Demons' Crest , the new light novel by Reki Kawahara —creator of Sword Art Online and Accel World —will be adapted into an anime. The work marks the author's return to the VRMMORPG genre and, therefore, rekindles fans' interest in virtual survival stories. Furthermore, the announcement was accompanied by a special illustration by Yukiko Horiguchi , an artist known for Kyoto Animation classics such as K-ON! and Lucky Star .
The story takes place in 2031, when the first "totally immersive" VRMMORPG, Current Magic , turns fun into tragedy. Meanwhile, an entire class of sixth-grade students becomes trapped inside the game. The protagonist, Yuuma , must fight to survive while watching his classmates turn into monsters. On the other hand, his only chance of resistance arises with Valac , the demon who possessed his twin sister. Thus, Yuuma begins a desperate search for his missing friend, Nagi .
Reki Kawahara launched the series in 2022, and finally, volume 4 arrives on December 10th from Dengeki Bunko. Therefore, anticipation for the anime grows as we await new information about the staff, cast, and premiere date.
