It has been revealed that the film Demon Slayer: Mugen Train surpassed Mortal Kombat at the box office . According to the website Box Office Mojo, the film grossed approximately US$9.5 million (about R$52 million reais) on its opening day in the United States.

Thus, it surpassed Mortal Kombat , which grossed approximately US$9.03 million (R$49.45 million). Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train was shown in 1598 theaters on Friday, while Mortal Kombat was shown in 3073 theaters.

The film is a sequel to the anime that was a hit in 2019. The movie is adapting the next story arc, the Mugen Train . The first season had 26 episodes that adapted up to chapter 53 (beginning of volume 7) of the manga. Mugen Train broke many records and became the highest-grossing film of all time in Japan.
