Synopsis: Persona 3 takes place in a modern Japanese city, built and financed by the Kirijo Corporation . Due to past events, there is a "Dark Hour," a period of time that exists between midnight and the next day that only a few conscious people can see; those who are not conscious find themselves frozen in coffins. The Dark Hour brings a bend in reality; Gekkoukan High School, where most of the characters attend school during the day, becomes a huge, maze-like tower called "Tartarus" at night. This summons beasts called Shadows that roam and protect certain areas, preying on the minds of those still conscious during this time, leaving victims in a near-catatonic state outside of the Dark Hour.
