Bandai Namco revealed new details about Digimon Story: Time Stranger during Digimon Con 2025. The RPG will feature the largest number of Digimon ever seen in the series, totaling more than 450 creatures available to train. In addition, the game will have an engaging narrative, exploring the relationship between past and future, humans and Digimon, and the mysteries of the world's impending destruction.

A story of time travel and conspiracies

The story takes place in Tokyo and follows an agent of the secret organization ADAMAS, which specializes in investigating anomalous phenomena. During a mission in Shinjuku, the protagonist encounters a Digimon and, soon after, is caught in a mysterious explosion. Upon awakening, he discovers that he has traveled eight years into the past.

The player will need to unravel the secrets of this time travel and find a way to prevent the world from collapsing. The story unfolds between two universes: the Human World and the Digital World, called Iliad. The interaction between these realities will be one of the game's major highlights.

Detailed exploration of Tokyo and the Digital World

Unlike previous games, Time Stranger focuses on a detailed recreation of Tokyo, particularly the Shinjuku and Akihabara districts. The developers' goal was to offer a more immersive experience, allowing players to explore realistic and complex environments.

The Digital World will also receive significant attention. The central city of Iliad will be one of the game's main settings, teeming with Digimon and locations for exploration. According to the producers, players will be able to frequently move between the two worlds, making the experience richer and more dynamic.

Choose between two protagonists and face unique challenges

Players will be able to choose between two protagonists: Dan Yuki and Kanan Yuki, both agents of ADAMAS. The decision will influence the narrative, as the unchosen character will assume the role of operator, providing remote support. This format allows players to experiment with different approaches throughout the story.

Furthermore, another prominent character will be Inori Misono, a student who joins the protagonist after a significant event in her past. Her partner Digimon, Aegiomon, will be key to the plot and will accompany the player in both exploration and battles.

Battle system and new encounter mechanics in Digimon Story

The combat system will retain the traditional turn-based mechanics, with battles against enemy Digimon occurring upon contact with them on the map. This approach, called symbol encounter, promises to make confrontations more natural and less random.

At the start of the game, the player can choose a starter Digimon from Patamon, Gomamon, or DemiDevimon. Throughout the adventure, it will be possible to capture and train hundreds of Digimon, taking advantage of the largest roster of creatures ever seen in the franchise.

Olympos XII and the expansion of the Digimon universe

Another new element will be the introduction of Olympos XII, a group of 12 Digimon that protect the Digital World. According to the developers, these characters will have a central role in the story, something that has been little explored in previous games in the series.

With enhanced graphics, detailed animations, and a deep storyline, Digimon Story: Time Stranger promises to be the most ambitious experience in the franchise. The game will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
